Hazing used to be pretty normal for the hardcore.

I trained to go ahead of infantry to remove dangerous hazards and to fight with infantry. There was no hazing, and there was no tolerance for homosexual behaviors.

Notice that the article is about a private security contractor at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan: “ArmorGroup North America” “owned by Wackenhut Services.”

Readers should also consider the likely candidates for such civilian jobs, similar to those reserve component folks who indulged in similar perversions at Abu Ghraib (not the red herring about torture but the homosexual acts).
