The football is a larger metaphor for diplomacy in general....From a marketing standpoint, (all publicity is good publicity), Trump probably thought it was not a bad move to say what he did.

But knowing when to pass on controversy for controversy's sake alone shows good judgement. His remarks added nothing of substance to the national discourse, and were probably better left unsaid.

I remember recently hearing a former KGB spy on the radio...he said the Soviets were really afraid of Reagan because they thought he might actually drop the bomb. No such fear with that miscreant we have in there now.

So yes, diplomacy is good to a point. I do agree...would have been better if he hadn’t said it like this although McCain sure doesn’t seem to have any problem calling his right wing opponents names...and no one particularly cares. I will never forgive him for not defending Sarah, and for his “you have nothing to fear from a President Obama”. I still think there is something funny about his POW days....in the Senate he’s been too willing to accommodate those he supposedly opposes.
