First time use of the word in the United States was when Woodrow Wilson appointed a czar for the War Industries Board.
Next up was FDR who made extensive use of czars for transportation, production, shipping and synthetic rubber.
Not to be outdone, Republicans wanted a food czar to control production and distribution of foodstuffs.

Nixon had a drug and an energy czar.
Remember the even day and odd day purchasing of gas?
That was the energy czar at work.

George W Bush had a czar or two during his time.

Obama has made such an extensive use of czars that even Democrat Senators Byrd, Feingold and Feinstein have questioned the need for them.

Czars have been with us a while.

Thanks, I was no aware of all that. CZARS is such a horrible word, it denotes dictator to me, and possible that is just what they intend to do.

Why isn't a simple title suffice? Judge, officer, Director, manager, etc......simple and tells us who is charge.

Going forth, I would like to have Trump or Cruz come out and say they will appoint NO CZARS...........
