It’s more common that you might think but I agree, the level of attention required for a hot would take the fun out of it.
I’ve handled and dealt with a lot of hot snakes and they’re not that bad but I’m not interested in keeping them. I made it a point on knowing how to handle hots though. I do a lot of snake rescue in my area and many wild hots end up getting in spots where the home owners freak out. I usually just relocate them to the wild life management area near me.
Snakes are not something to be feared, but they do demand respect. Some people though just blow my mind at how freaked out they get over snakes.
Good on you for the rescue efforts. I “rescued” an enormous Bull snake, must have been at least 7 feet, and very thick. I saw it about to crawl onto a road where it likely would have been killed, so I grabbed its rear section and swung him around back toward the bushes which he then crawled under. He made no attempt to bite me, but it would have hurt bad if he did and succeeded. He probably later crawled back on that road but at least I tried.
