Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz labeled the attacks on two military centers in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Thursday that killed four U.S. Marines and injured two others an act of war.
Cruz said in a statement Friday that Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, the Kuwait-born suspected gunman in the attacks, traveled to the Army Recruiting Center and the Naval and Marine Reserve Center to carry out jihad, an act of radical Islamic terrorism.
We need to rid ourselves of two dangerous delusions, Cruz, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, explained, first and foremost that a lone gunman — as President Obama described the shooter — is somehow isolated from the larger threat of radical Islamic terrorism.
In the modern world, no one acts in isolation, Cruz continued. Through social media ISIS, al Qaeda, and other groups are infiltrating our nation with impunity while our government will not even admit that radical Islamic terrorism is a problem.
President Obama called the four deaths heartbreaking in a statement on the shootings Thursday, adding that the investigation has thus far revealed that a lone gunman carried out these attacks.
However, Cruz urged the public not to dismiss such tragedies as lone incidents, connecting the Chattanooga shootings to attacks waged on military facilities in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Fort Hood, Texas, both of which occurred in 2009.
The Obama administration was woefully reluctant to call either an act of radical Islamic terrorism, instead suggesting workplace violence as a justification for the killings, Cruz said.
Cruz urged that the Senate Armed Services Committee hold immediate hearings regarding the need for our enlisted men and women to have the right to be armed in military facilities.
The Texas lawmaker also called on Congress to pass the Expatriate Terrorist Act, a bill that would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to allow the government to prevent Americans traveling overseas to train with terrorist groups from returning to the U.S. to attack the homeland.
We can thoroughly overhaul our broken immigration system that is allowing this type of individual to gain citizenship, Cruz suggested. And we can accept the reality that while we might wish it otherwise, the forces of radical Islam are at war with us.
As of Thursday, investigators were treating the Chattanooga attacks as an act of domestic terrorism, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Killian.
Officials said Friday that they believe the 24-year-old gunman, who was born in Kuwait before becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen, traveled to Jordan last year and possibly Yemen. His father, Youssuf Abdulazeez, was investigated twice in an FBI terror funding investigation but was cleared of wrongdoing.
The alleged shooter, who was killed Thursday, was not listed on any U.S. terror watch list, law enforcement officials said.
The victims in the attacks have been identified as Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, Sgt. Carson Holmquist and Lance Cpl. Squire Skip Wells. A police officer and another servicemen wounded in the shootings suffered non-lifethreatening injuries.
Do we “have a clue” as to motive?
the forces of radical Islam are at war with us.
Islam has been at war with everyone else since 622 A.D.
Number 1, immediately halt muslim immigration into this country.
Ted Cruz is spot on.
You promised you would never forget me.
Lots of acts of war.... actually Obama is doing more acts of war..
War against this republic.. the muslim only killed a few people..
Obama is degrading the entire republic.. THATS WAR...
Calling him a traitor is so banal... he’s worse that that..
America elected (twice) a virtual enemy of AMERICA..
The WAR is afoote’... NOW.. not then.... NOW..
Not only Obama but thousands of other “enemy” agents..
Brilliant... agents put in very TOP positions of power.. in the federal leviathan
THAT: cannot be REMOVED easily with a new administration..
To be remembered even (( IF )) a republican is elected in 2016..
Which probably WON’T happen.... voter fraud is so entrenched and massive..
Generally, the anti-gun crowd is out front in these shootings, demanding "assault" weapons be banned and "gun-show loopholes" be immediately closed. So far, there has been very little of that. In fact, the lack of it has been striking.
There has been little discussion (either in the media or by the authorities) concerning what sort of weapon Abdulazeez used, or where he obtained it. Usually, this sort of information is front and center because it gives grist to the anti-gun mill and deflects attention away from the perp to the tool.
Maybe I missed something in the news, but this is mysterious, isn't it? Why is information about the weapon and how the authorities tracked him down and killed him so scarce? Was a genuine automatic assault rifle used? From the looks of the sprayed bullet hole pattern at the mall from a very short range, it seems likely. The fact he quickly gunned down the victims at the Reserve Center leads one to believe it was done quickly.
If he used an real automatic assault rifle, where did he get it? Was it gotten through cartel or ISIS sources? Why are the authorities so quiet about the weapon(s)? If it were simply an ugly black rifle one can buy at WalMart, why is everybody ignoring it? Wouldn't it be front page news?
The silence on this subject is deafening. Does anybody have any good clues here? But perhaps I missed them all in the past wall-to-wall 30 hours of coverage...?
Number 2, deport all of them.
Ted Cruz is a principled man and brave. He speaks up as much as Trump about important issues. We need them both at this time.
We can thoroughly overhaul our broken immigration system that is allowing this type of individual to gain citizenship, Cruz suggested. And we can accept the reality that while we might wish it otherwise, the forces of radical Islam are at war with us.
___
I mostly agree with the above statement. Remove the word “radical” and I agree completely.
Exactly right!
Are you “radical” if you believe and live by the Ten Commandment’s in the Bible?
“Workplace violence”
I just heard that mahammed’s mommy was divorcing his dada. Dats it!!
Agreed.
Ted would make a wonderful Secretary of State.
Col. West for Dept of War, (yes change the name back.)
Trey Gowdy in the Justice Dept head spot.
Gov. Walker in Dept of Labor.
Gov. Martinez in Home Land Security
Gov Palin in the Interior Dept.
Doctor Carson in HHS
Only POTUS position for Ted Cruz!
Right idea probably too late thou. There is not enough strength left among conservatives in America to either control immigration or assimilate. Our political defeats prove that.
If we remain tied together under Washington all of America will become like the black community today. Racially segregated in a welfare self-centered entitlement state where individualism is discourage in favor of collectivism and there is little hope for the idea that founded and built america.
We are nether culturally nor politically strong enough in the USA as a whole to change this path at this point. Our last opportunity was probably in the 90’s and the turning point was in the 60’s before that. In the most conservative parts of America if they were to become independent they could still carry out the changes necessary in immigration and assimilation policy to preserve our self-reliant free-market couture.
“Ted Cruz is a principled man and brave. He speaks up as much as Trump about important issues. We need them both at this time.”
I agree, although i must admit we have a slim chance of getting either.
We need to focus on economic policies to convene the poor that free markets entrepreneurism is the way to success not the welfare state. Only then will winning a demographic war be even possible.
The most likely alternative is balkinization so that we can preserve something of the free market self-reliant couture that built america free from the oppression of the racist clans of freeloaders that have moved in.
Say no to radical Islam and yes to the elimination of Islam.
