Donald Trump: ‘I’m actually a conservative with a heart’
Washington Times ^ | 07/17/2015 | By David Sherfinski

Businessman Donald Trump on Thursday said the country has to provide health care for the poor and that he’s “actually a conservative with a heart” who can work out deals with hospitals to make it happen.

“I want people taken care of in the country, okay? You can call it anything you want, but I want — including people that don’t have anything,” Mr. Trump said on “The John Fredericks Show.” about “We gotta do that.”

Mr. Fredericks, a Virginia-based radio host who has predicted that Mr. Trump will win the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, had asked Mr. Trump how to reconcile his statements critical of President Obama’s health care law with past statements in which Mr. Trump was warm to the notion of universal health care coverage.

“You know, I’m a very conservative guy … number one, the people that can do it, we’re going to get them plans that are so good and we’re going to break the borders, we’re going to go [to] the private plans,” Mr. Trump said. “A lot of people had plans they loved before Obamacare came along. You probably did. I have friends that had really good plans — now they have horrible plans and they’re paying five times more for [them].

Here’s an excerpt you might enjoy about Reagan.

Reagan’s Real Legacy: A Reply to Donald Devine

...In “the speech,” Reagan said conservatives believed in “telling our senior citizens that no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds.” Perhaps that is why he signed EMTALA, a 1986 law that requires every hospital accepting Medicare to admit and stabilize patients needing emergency care regardless of their ability to pay. He also expressed this concept — a person should not be denied ”x” because he couldn’t afford it — even in his 1975 interview with Reason magazine (“tuition should never be a block to anyone getting an education who could not otherwise afford to go to the university”). This curious mode of talking is a very revealing window into Reagan’s belief regarding the proper role, and the limitation of that role, in providing what we call “welfare” or “services” for all.

LMAO. I will give Trump credit though for being a master showman and pulling back the curtain on the UNIPARTY GOP. Compassionate Conservativism 2.0? No Thanks. Bush set this nation on a path of destruction with that crap.

Trump will burn for a long time, mostly because he has the money. Don’t forget, Romney was vastly less solid on issues, vastly more liberal than we’ve seen Trump be so far, he had less money, and he went to the General. If Donald doesn’t burn long and hot this time, Jeb surely will, based on history. I’d say we follow Trump for a while, as he pushes Jeb out, and then see how it looks on primary day.

I think you miss the dynamic here, respectfully. Mitt never burned. He plodded. Jeb will never burn. He just plods.

I think you totally missed what you mean by burn bright, hot and for a short time.

“actually a conservative with a heart”

We've said it over and over and over again. Trump is a one-trick pony with a left-wing past that's as long as your arm. He's playing some conservatives (and sadly, more than a few Freepers) like fiddles.

Trump is sounding like just a louder version of GWB.
Weak on conservatism.

Not good for Trump.

I actually don’t take what he said this way. I did hear him say we need to have a plan that crosses state lines to make insurance more affordable and competitive - and it will. He also said we need to take care of the poor. ERs were never meant to be a doctor’s office for people. Some people just need help. That’s all!

“Still I do think Trump has transformed this campaign and forced the GOP to finally confront the elephant in the room”

I concur... he...and therefore “it” compelled coverage. They couldn’t avoid him like they have the legit conservatives...who by the way have not exactly been quiet on the issue...

One must beware his motives, nonetheless. Unless someone truly conservative considers the nuance needed to navigate the minefield he has planted...The RINO/Dem establishment will capitalize on his blow-it-up-from-the-inside ploy.

Just my continued concern.

But it's all true. He says all the right things. He just doesn't deliver them effectively and more important, no one outside of FAUX and Freerepublic, if they even know who he is, knows what he's said.

I'm just being what Cruz supporters should be with themselves...Honest

Your reaction? Stick you fingers in your ears and shoot the messenger.

But, he's likely a winner.
