Water exerts an additional atmosphere (14.7PSI) for every 11 meters of depth (33’). If the total water column for the new dam is 314 meters, the pressure at the base of the dam would be approximately 420PSI.

420psi would be about the same pressure being handled by the belt of Michael Moore's pants, so I thinktbe technology is available.

So, how many hectares of good farmland are they submerging to make this dam? How many people will be forcibly moved? Gotta wonder.
May not be a whole lot of farmland suberged. A dam that tall means a very deep canyon -- a long, narrow lake rather than a large shallow one.
It will probably be located up on the headwaters of the Yangzte.
