Jokes and such aside, I never did understand a couple things during my 4 years of living in West “By God” Virginia. 1. There are NO MOUNTAINS in WV - and I even went to the “highest point”, spruce knob, just over 4,000 ft. in elevation. I have to go downhill to make that elevation here in CO. Also, it’s KanaWHA!!!!!!!!!
It is kind of funny, my ancestors pioneered in what is now West Virginia in the 1760s, but where I live in California at over 4,000 feet, I still have mountains towering 10,000 feet above that.
It’s because the Appalachians are far older than the Rockies.
My family settled in VA in the late 1600’s and pushed to the Charleston area in the 1830’s.
