Wasn’t Sendai one of the places that got hit by the Tsunami several years ago? The airport videos, IRCC.
Sendai was affected by the earthquake, and the airport was under water. Trains were able to get to Sendai from Tokyo in a few days but getting further north to help those closer to the worst of the destruction took much longer.
A high school classmate just came from a visit to Sendai recently. I couldn’t tell much difference between the pictures he took and mine from 2006, which indicates much of the earthquake damage has been repaired there. Fukushima is another story.
