I wish I were more optimistic after reading that article.
What increasingly worries me is — drones with agents that could be sprayed down on neighborhoods.
No handgun is going to stop that.
We’d have to fight drones with drones, basically, to protect our neighborhoods.
Technology could radically alter the playing field, no doubt. But it could also go toward enhancing individual freedom, e.g., the development of firearms a few hundred years ago contributed to individual rights, because a lot more individuals became instantly powerful with a firearm than a sword.
But as it relates to the premise of the article (”a handgun is enough”), what I take from that is that the indispensible “weapon” is your willingness to resist with whatever you’ve got.

The drones are very fallible in their flight control mechanisms...: )
