The U.S. Army will reduce the number of soldiers stationed at Hawaii bases by 1,443 over the next two years, a reduction of 8 percent, rather than cutting most of the troops currently stationed on Oahu, Defense Department officials said Thursday.
The cuts are part of a nation-wide cost-cutting move that will reduce the number of soldier positions by 40,000 by 2017.

This all so wrong.
If you’ve been to Hawaii in the last decade or so, you can’t really say this is a bad thing.
It’s a great tourist destination, but living there on a military salary is tough, to say the least, even for officers.
Insane traffic, and incredibly high costs of living (food, rent, utilities, etc.). My brother-in-law is just leaving there after three years, and they are glad to go.
Yeah, God forbid that they ever reduce the DOD civilian workforce.
I’ve got a better idea, lets cut those overly expensive, gas guzzling VC-25’s from the inventory, and let that Kenyan born America hating, homosexual, marxist, muslim fly space available in the cargo hold of any Zimbabwe Air flight.... Would save millions of dollars.
As usual they the Pentagon has it all wrong. They should draw down the civilian workforce which is huge and bloats the whole system. Leave the Armed Forces in place.
But, but, but, what if the Germans decide to bomb Pearl Harbor again?
Probably Congressman Hank Johnson is afraid Hawaii will tip over with too many troops on it.
Does Hawaii really need an army presence? Navy, sure. Even Marines. We have soldiers based in Asia for first response already.
Question: Why are we decimating our military when we face a greater threat from Jihad, Russia and perhaps China in the near future?
The only answer is that Obama and the ‘Rats want America to be weak.
Sequester the EPA , the IRS , the DOJ , the BLM , NOT our U.S. Armed Forces !
They want America to lose!
Speaking as someone who has lived there since I was 11 and work for the Navy; I can attest to that!
