Feds Delay Obamacare Menu Labeling Rule By a Year

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is delaying an Obamacare regulation requiring restaurants to display calorie information until December 2016 after businesses complained they did not have sufficient time to comply with the complex rules.

“We are taking this action in response to requests for an extension and for further clarification of the rule’s requirements,” the FDA said.

The 319-page regulation, mandated by Obamacare, is estimated to cost industry $1.7 billion to comply. The rule requires restaurant chains with 20 or more stores to list calorie information for nearly every food item, and a “succinct statement” that “2,000 calories a day is used for general nutrition advice, but calorie needs vary,” on each menu board.

Vending machines must also display calorie information, though that part of the regulation was already set to take effect in December 2016.

Violations of the regulation can carry civil and criminal penalties, of up to a $1,000 fine, one year in prison, or both.

Domino’s, a leading critic of the rule claimed that it is “impossible to comply” with its requirements, said the delay is not enough to fix the regulation.

The really tragic issue with this TOTAL POS is that the Congress just lets him keep happening to America.

Surely this postponement has nothing to do with the election next year. That is more than a little hypocritical.

It is an asinine regulation to say the least anyway. People who go to a certain restaurant because there is something on the menu they want - calories have nothing to do with it.

The first thing that should happen with the new President is that they roll back all the government regs instituted during at least the last ten years.

The fact that they continue to re-write the rules, deadlines, etc... of the law is upsetting!

Fifty years. The left must be shoved over the edge and forced into climbing
back for the next 100-years. The slow boil is how they work, so one swipe and Poof.

Every large chain should make each store an LLC with a number such as Red Lobster #459

I guarantee that cost projection is at least 50 % off, probably more 100 % off...

The real question is, what purpose does it really serve ?

People have a pretty good idea what they are stuffing in their mouth...

The obesity problem in this country is largely the fault of the food manufacturers producing crap for food...

The food lacks the proper nutrition and ingredients to satisfy your hunger...

The other part is people like eating good tasting crap...

It's actually pretty hard to eat properly in this country...

After the election, of course.

Regardless to the ‘nutrition value’ of the food, the human body will digest and use more of the nutrition from food it LIKES, and will use less from food it doesn’t like.

You do not understand. The Republican Party is nearly as corrupt as the Democrat Party. They work together for their own selfish interests. Boehner is Obama’s butt boy as is McConnell. Nothing of benefit has come out of having a Republican controlled House and Senate.

I watched a one hour interview last night of Donald Trump by JD Hayworth, the former AZ Congressman. He was asked direct questions, and he answered every one of them without ever beating around the bush. Until last night, I was not a big Trump fan. After last night, despite his sometimes brashness, I view him as being exactly who we need in order to clean house of Dems and Repubs who have turned Washington in the payoff capital of the Western World.
