One year later, the aftershocks from Tea Party favorite Dave Brats stunning win over then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) are still rippling across Washington.
(SNIP)
Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) had just arrived at a birthday fundraiser for Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.) at Del Friscos Grille, a steakhouse near the White House. She would later tell McHenry that Cantors unexpected loss had made it her worst birthday ever. A few blocks away, Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas) was sitting down to dinner with Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman

Everyone mentioned in the article are about as conservative a La Raza Rick Perry on immigration.
Steve King IA is the best the House has on illegal aliens.
I was very happy to play a small part in throwing the weasel Eric Cantor out. I was smiling for a week after.
They are still haunted by it because we showed everyone that term limits are in the hands of voters in every district.
That’s why the British would hang an admiral every now and then.
As an example to the others.
Well, I thought it was one of the most encouraging and thrilling political events of the past decade.
I think it was the French Army that would shoot some of their soldiers “pour encourager les autres”. I doubt if any British admirals were hanged — ordinary seamen, yes, but admirals were few and far between, and members of the elite, don’t you know.
“otherwise Boehner would be forced to cave to the Democrats even more”... to pass bad legislation to benefit his donors and the media.
The RINO’s response to Brat’s win is to double down on passing legislation for their big donors so the RINOs will have more campaign money to fight off conservative primary challengers.
And it’s working.
The Dem/RINOs have to be be beaten in the general elections.
After I posted it, the hanging part gave me second thoughts. There was a famous case of the British controversially executing an admiral in the 18th century, but he was shot, not hanged. (Shooting was considered a more honorable way to go.)
I remember seeing a picture of him blindfolded, dropping the handkerchief as the signal to fire. Ah yes, here it is -- Adm. John Byng
We had a candidate for Congress in TN not so long ago, Lou Ann Zelenik. She made Bachmann look like Nancy Pelosi. Absolutely unapologetic in standing up to the Mohammadan horror.
This from the link:
“Byng’s execution was satirized by Voltaire in his novel Candide. In Portsmouth, Candide witnesses the execution of an officer by firing squad; and is told that ‘in this country, it is good to kill an admiral from time to time, in order to encourage the others” (Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres).’”
I think that’s the source of it.
(I can’t depend on my memory like I used to!)
This is a real tear jerker. < /sarcasm >
<><> the showboating Cantor had tons of money---spent 26X times his opponent's $100K.
<><> Cantor consistently polled an astounding 34 points ahead of his unknown opponent.
<><> Cantor was considered "inevitable" and "untouchable".
<><> Cantor had no ethics problems.
<><> Cantor sucked-up to an anti-tea party group.
<><> Cantor sucked up to the latino vote.
<><> Cantor showboated his leadership---was deeply into (gag) "diversity."
=============================================
BY CONTRAST CANTOR'S PRIMARY OPPONENT:
<><> Brat ran as Cantor's TERM LIMIT
<><> Brat roundly opposed, and was vociferous against amnesty.
<><> Brat ran as a staunch conservative (now in Congress he has a bonafide 100% conservative rating.)
<><> On election day, Brat got 18,000 more Repub out to the polls than the previous election that elected Cantor.
================================================
CANTOR IN DEFEAT----DUMBFOUNDED:
THE KICKER Cantor ran high-priced ads
delineating his opponent's "inferior" positions...but
voters liked what they heard and came out in droves for Brat.
Happy as two peas in a RINO pod.
Supposedly, a Frog general said that during WWI when some soldiers were shot. Perhaps he was deliberately quoting Voltaire, whom he would probably know well.
