Pipeline from Mexico Brings Sewage Over the Border ( My interpretation)

UCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Nogales city officials said they believe Sunday afternoon's sewage flood was caused by a possible drug tunnel.

Officials were able to stop the flowing water, after it began flowing out of a home.

As of Monday morning, the home and a nearby business were without gas and power.

A section of Morley Avenue is also still shut down as the cause of the flooding is investigated.

Nogales City Manager Shane Dille said they found oxygen tanks and pumps inside the home, which led them to believe the cause was drugs, but police can’t confirm yet.

However, Dille did confirm a tunnel was involved.

He said there was a hole in the floor of the home with a wooden ladder which led down to the tunnel that connects to the International Outfall Interceptor, a pipeline that runs sewage from Mexico to the U.S.

Nogales city officials said they believe there was a breach pipeline.

“We had to contain the flow by puncturing the tunnel and all the flow had to come out,” Dille said. “There was not an earth tremor there was not anything that would suggest anything other than human activity that caused a rupture in the line.”

As of Monday afternoon, sewage in Nogales had not been affected.

The city is working to chlorinate the sewer water that flowed into the street and into the wash. Dille said this whole ordeal is a public health issue.

“It is terrible to begin with,” said Dille. “It pays no respect to public health, first you are dealing people; people asking other people to do something like this which puts their lives in danger then it is a complete disregard to the public around I mean look what we have to do as a result of their careless activity.”

The International Outfall Interceptor carries 10 million gallons of sewage from Mexico to the U.S. everyday.

I think it's great that we are importing raw sewage from Mexico. Cuz, you know...we can't produce enough sewage to meet our own domestic sewage needs. ;-)

Nothing much new here. Nogales, Sonora, Mexico is at a higher elevation than Nogales, Arizona so they have always sent their sewage to the Arizona side. And the sewer has always been a prime smuggling path. That’s sh*tty but you can’t repeal the law of gravity :-)
