The Memphis City Council approved a resolution to move the remains of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Mayor Wharton said this is a movement designed to honor Forrest’s will and testament, in which his last wish was that he and his wife be buried at Elmwood Cemetery.

Where is the pushback on this? Why are we not hearing thunderous shouts of “ENOUGH”?

Because YOU aren’t standing up in the Council chamber, shaking a rifle in their faces and demanding they come to their senses. At the same time, there needs to be four or five hundred similar souls standing watch in municipal park.

Alas, they’re all too busy.

I’ll tell you something, down here in central redneck Virginia, such a thing wouldn’t happen.

At least for now. The influx of Yankees continues.

They are going to take money from the local citizens to pay to dig up a guy who has been dead for 100 years over a new social narrative?

Must be nice to have that kind of disposable cash lying around.

It certainly provides a pretext, but I can also accept it as being accurate.

NBF was, and is, revered. I can see the leaders at the time ignoring his wishes to give the General a much more prominant burial location.

The fact is that he should be buried where he wanted to be buried. So if his legitimate last will and testament stated where he wanted to be buried, thats where he should go.

Personally, I’m waiting until I see the whites of their political lies.

Let the other side hopelessly overreach and overextend themselves here. There will be a tipping point for pushback and the further they get, the more massive that pushback will be.

Think of Napoleon going too deep into Russia. I’m seeing, and know others are seeing, some of the “cooler heads” of the Prog Movement warn their more extremist fellow travellers to back off. And are, at best, being ignored, and often shouted down.

One hundred of these s—t-eating city council types couldn’t have touched the man while he was alive.

These cowards would have run at the sight of his shadow.

What times we live in.....

"So if his legitimate last will and testament stated where he wanted to be buried, thats where he should go."

And, if that happens, I predict that The Sons of Confederate Veterans ("SCV") will turn out to provide a massive, uniformed, flag-carrying re-burial procession and honor ceremony approaching that provided for the re-burial of the remains of the crew of the recovered Confederate submarine, the H.L. Hunley!

FYI, the "SCV" (as its name implies) exists primarily to honor the Confederate veteran ancestors of its members -- and others as they can be identified.

Full disclosure: My Great-Grandfather "Rode with Forrest"...

They are going to take money from the local citizens to pay to dig up a guy
who has been dead for 100 years over a new social narrative?

************

This will be Forrest third burial. He was orginally buried in Elmwood,
moved to the current site and is now being moved again.

snip
The Forrests were originally buried at Elmwood, but the city created Forrest Park
in 1904, removing the Forrests’ bodies from Elmwood and relocating them to Union
Avenue. The park has since been renamed Health Sciences Park.

Opponents to uprooting the monument and remains said the Tennessee General Assembly’s
passage of the Heritage Protection Act in 2013
prohibits the renaming,
removal, or relocating of any military monument or item.

“That Protection Act, I feel, would also apply to the bust at the State Capitol, and
the State Legislature is now making plans to remove that,” said Memphis City Council
Chairman Myron Lowery. “If they can remove their bust, why can’t we remove the Forrest statue?”

To move the statue, Wharton would need approval from the Tennessee Historical Commission,
and possibly the County Commission.

Wharton would also need the green light from Forrest’s descendants and a Chancery Court.

Tuesday, the council voted on a companion resolution and ordinance triggering the following:
•Condemnation of the equestrian statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest
•Assignment and Sale of equestrian statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest
•Relocation and Removal of equestrian statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest
•Removal And Reinterment of Remains of All Deceased Persons Buried In The Burial Ground At Health Sciences Park

/snip

There is some speculation that the UT wants to purchase the property but nothing confirmed.

snip
There were rumors that the rush was on to move the statue and graves of Forrest and
his wife in order to sell the property to the University of Tennessee.

Has anyone else heard UT is about to do a $500 million expansion and that park
is something they want asked council member Janis Fullilove.

When I made this recommendation I had not heard that, replied council member Lowery.

Absolutlely.

I’ve seen pictures from the funeral and interment of the Hunley’s third crew. Have seen Hunley herself at the conservation center in N Charleston several times and been out to where all the crews are buried, side by side, at Magnolia Cemetery.

The SCV, and people of Charleston, did right by that crew.

“That dead corpse over there is a racist! Dig him up!”

Now he'll have to vote RAT in a different district.

I’d truly like to believe that but after years of listening to tough talk and then seeing the crowds fail to form I’m a bit pessimistic. Over the past ten years or so there have been a few incidents where the people managed to face down government agents and prevent some encroachment: Bundy Ranch comes to mind as does the protest at the Klamath Falls water fiasco.
But more recently the State of Washington passed a bill that would effectively register every gun owner. People turned out to voice their anger and over the next few months there were several rallies and one gun show at which guns were bought and sold with no background checks.
With that pattern to work with and with a similar “law” in place, Oregonians held a rally on the steps of their capitol that drew less than 600 people.
Unless “central redneck Virginia” has some vaccine to combat that kind of lethargy every monument to every confederate man or cause will be obliterated. Remember, the people we fight aren’t really Americans - they are citizens of the world and liberal collectivists. Nothing will placate them until they have rewritten history and excerpted everything they don’t like - and they don’t like truth. When they clamor to tear down your monuments think “Taliban” and remember the ancient temples and statues they destroyed. Think “Isis” and the Christians they have beheaded and the historic Churches they razed. Like the Taliban and Isis they cannot be bargained with - only defeated. Surrender would be tantamount to death - indeed death might be prefferable.

Can you still say "SOUTH"?

Next, liberals will have the word itself banned.
