It’s the same problem with Tony Campolo’s blog. You use your own reason and your own definitions of things to determine how God should thing rather than basing your position on Scripture.
All of the arguments I’ve heard supporting gay marriage from evangelicals actually ignore what Biblical marriage is. They seem to have this Cindarella definition or something. But they forget some clear points.
There’s no proof that marriage makes you happy and no Biblical suggestion that people get married to be happy. There’s also no proof that single people are sentenced to being unhappy and no Biblical suggestion that single people can’t be happy.
People have very close relationships without being erotically involved and the Bible clearly encourages close, loving relationships between two people of the same sex without enouraging erotic activity between the two.
Finally, the Bible categorically denies that your worth comes from approval of men. Your worth comes from the fact that you were created by God and His approval is the only approval that matters.
I don’t get why this is all so hard for Christians to see.
