[The problem is that ESPN is buying up more and more events and limiting viewing to only those who view through ESPN.]

Turn off ESPN. Try it, you’ll like it.

I don't have cable nor does my mom. My mom would like to see the British Open because she enjoys looking at the course.

In the past big events were considered so universal that it was a basic assumption that they would only be covered by general broadcasters.

Not anymore. The highest bidder gets to decide who gets to see what. This will eventually even be the case for the Super Bowl and probably most NASCAR events.

So if you want to watch any big sports event then you will have to watch it through some corporate entity that will require you to pay a fee and/or be subjected to the latest PC gobbledygook during timeouts.

P.S.: And I know there are people that only need the Bible and their aging VHS tape of "The Sound of Music" to enlighten and entertain themselves. But some of us need a little more variety.
