I think most of us agree on that. The current solution effectively cedes the whole river to Mexico and has fenced some Texas ranchers out of their own dang country on land they've owned for generations.

And is a river. Hopping up and down hollering "fence!" is
great for that 40% of the border.. but ignores the other
60% and never seems to even realize the facts.
Now.. if we built a hella awesome fence on the MEXICAN side of the river.. I'm good with that.

As I said above, no need. We have vultures and coyotes. There is a reason so few actual bodies turn up and scattered bones are more common. Because nature is a self cleaning process.
I prefer that solution but driving piles into the middle of the river and fencing it works pretty easily. Look at the roadway they built on that one lake north of NOLA. Same tech.
Since most of the rio is a muddy ditch anyway, just do the Colorado River/SoCal pipeline thing and divert our half.
There are myrad ways to do it. It’s just a matter of will, not engineering.

I just never see that addressed when folks holler for a fence.
In fact, I'd bet that.. in Texas anyway.. 90% of broad-brush-fence objections would be removed by consideration of the facts on the ground.

How can you object, from a land usage rights standpoint, to people wanting to not be fenced off from the river that
drives and has driven regional agriculture for decades?
If it were your river I bet you wouldn't want it walled off either.

Actually, this is an argument for making the fence higher.
But the thing is is that we don’t have to wall off the river. We can’t go on the mexican side anyway without them filing an invasion protest of a bass boat so much as croses the center line. Wall off their half. the tech exists.
I live on the Colorado River. I promise you that given a choice, most of us Zonies would vote for a wall down the center of it to keep Californicators out without even considering the mexicans.

My point is that that particular issue always gets ignored
and sometimes folks who bring it up.. or perhaps express
it poorly.. get tarred with the “anti-fence” brush.
I guess you were referring to that long-ass bridge over
lake Pontchartrain just across the border to Louisiana
on I-10.. sure enough, it could be done.
Probably end up being a pretty cool feature, I’d even be proud to participate and score me an operator job.

No it isn’t a fence per se but whay I was getting at was that the texh that built it is no different that a fence in the Rio. Build that road vertically instead of horizontally and there it is.
I get what you’re saying. Many people do indeed say yea or nay without ever thinking about the how involved. My whole thing on that is that it can be done. Knowing that it can is then off the table and into the realm of ‘should’ it be done.
In almost every case I have argued with people on the fence issue they don’t want to deal with ‘should’ because as long as they say ‘can’t’ they never have to justify NOT building it bases on the pros or cons there. And thats why I believe that most people that are vehemently opposed are in fact pro illegal. Once people accept that we CAN, thn what is their basis to oppose it that does not automatically benefit illegals? They have to go into some very liberal backed arguments like the environment and that pretty much exposes their real intentions.
Sure, no one wants to look at a fence. Personally I don’t care about their asthetic desires when people are dying and our money is going to benefit invaders. Nor should a relative handful of landowners get to make the call on land they don’t even own anyway.
We need a creek of hungry gators too clean up the illegal pieces and parts from those who were told ankle deep was measured from feet first vs head first plunges.
