The feds claim all they asked was to be notified. Is this lawyer saying that there is no authority to apprise the feds of a pending release?

Rhetorical question to you, not looking for an answer! Just pointing out the disconnect in subject matter, as the incompetent parties try to deflect blame.

If there is an ICE detainer you let the feds know so they can make their own arrangements. Either to remand him at the holding facility or to arrange transportation to a federal facility or contract facility. But the bottom line is you need to coordinate with ICE regardless if the prisoner is being released on bail, bond or OR, or end of sentence or due to charges being dropped. It's no different than if he's got a detainer from another county or state. The detainer should be in his file and should be acted upon prior to release.
