But seriously, how are pastors (aka shepherds) going to guide the flock when they're unable to find guidance for themselves?

Here's what Paul said to the Ephesian church's pastors:

"Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood...And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all them that are sanctified." - Acts 20:28,32

So we see the job a church's shepherds are to do, and where they are to receive the guidance for that job.
