Actually began quite some time before but before Madelyn Murray O'Hare suit to ban bible in public schools (actually ended compulsory daily school directed scripture readings in public schools with voluntary reading still "permitted") was the real drive downward in our culture in 1963, when the "supreme's" decided that school directed daily bible readings was "unconstitutional," after also deciding in 1962, that daily prayers were also "unconstitutional."

The practical effect of those two decisions by the courts, effectively banned bibles, prayers and scriptures, as the government public schools decided that if they couldn't/shouldn't direct readings, studies or prayers, then nobody would study or pray or even have a bible in school!

It should come as no surprise, that dear Madelyn, as a committed Communist, planned on defecting to the USSR, but unfortunately, decided against moving.

O'Hare filed suit against NASA's Appolo 8 for allowing readings or quotes from Genesis but her case was thrown out for "lack of jurisdiction!"

After O’Hare’s complaints NASA did try and stop astronauts from quoting the Bible and stuff a lot of the time.Not totally successful but somewhat.
