King v. Burwell is the Supreme Court’s “Humpty Dumpty” decision, that the written law no longer means what it actually says, but can be modified “at whim” by the president, to mean what he wants it to mean. In effect, the Supreme Court has just decided to cede all of its power to the president.
Through the Looking Glass (1872):
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master thats all.”
Perfect quote. I’m afraid country has been through the looking glass for quite a while.
Even when the person who wrote the law said he did it just to make the republican governors have to support obamacare, Roberts says “Well, he really didn’t mean it.”
I know a liberal who used the same terminology to defend Obama’s stupidity. I pointed out some of the stupid things he’d said and the liberal said “Well, he didn’t mean it.”
As for Roberts, thanks again, George Bush.
