“The Constitution limits the federal government”

Are you serious? The constitution has done nothing to limit the government. NOTHING. A scrap of paper cannot restrict tyrants. The constitution has enabled this monstrosity. The anti-federalist were correct.

The Constitution only has power if those in power abide by its restrictions. Once they become unmoored from those restrictions everything becomes “Constitutional” if the words can be twisted to reflect any clause or phrase used in the document.

In short, The Constitution is only words on a page. It cannot defend itself. If those with power choose to abuse it then others with power have to defend it else it is lost.
