Citadel leaders want Confederate flag moved from Summerall Chapel

Less than a week after nine people were fatally shot in Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, leaders at The Citadel have voted to remove a Confederate Naval Jack flag from the campus chapel.

Dylann Storm Roof, who has been charged in the shootings, was previously photographed posing with the Confederate flag. Many national businesses have vowed to stop selling Confederate merchandise, and hundreds of people rallied in Columbia to remove the Confederate battle flag from the S.C. Statehouse grounds. Lawmakers are expected to debate the flag’s location this summer.

One of the victims of the shooting was a Citadel Graduate College alumnus, and six Citadel employees lost family members, according to a statement issued by Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa. The statement did not identify which victims were connected to the school.

“This has been a difficult week for our community and state,” Rosa said. “The Emanuel AME Church is our neighbor, and we consider it a part of our extended Citadel family.”

The Citadel’s board of visitors voted 9-3 Tuesday evening to move the Confederate Naval Jack from Summerall Chapel to an “appropriate location on campus,” Rosa said. Before it can be moved though, state legislators must amend the S.C. Heritage Act.

It’s a South Carloina issue...why don’t you both stay the hell out of it?

It's a South Carolina issue today, it's a United States of America issue tomorrow.

I’m sure the Citadel has a Roll of Honor plaque for the Citadel students who joined the Confederacy and died for the cause..

Will they go as far as taking that down ???

If they can, they'll go as far as the Khmer Rouge did in Cambodia.

I still hate Confederates bub. But taking away someones right to free speech, however offense I find it means mine can be taken away too. And your last statement confirms what I've always suspected of you-- you're a Dixiecrat.

Dixiecrat? No, I’m registered in the current party of treachery, the GOP, same as you.

But I give you credit for not letting your hatred blind you to the threat to free speech that is posed by this politically correct marriage between GOP leadership and the cultural Marxists of the Democrat Party.

If the GOP’s ethnic cleansers think that this campaign will be limited to eradicating southern culture they are very, very mistaken. It will be used as the template and opening wedge for a much broader assault on all of American history, including their Sainted Abraham.

Not Virginia’s.

The Virginia State Flag contains the Great Seal of Virginia. The Great Seal was approved and adopted at Virginia’s 1776 Constitutional Convention. It predates the Confederacy by 95 years.

You know someone ought to get enterprising and buy up as many Confederate Battle Flags as they can then get themselves a web domain and make a killing. Seriously. All the big chain stores and small outlets are dumping those things like a case of the clap. If someone doesn’t get in on the shrinking market you can bet some over seas outlet will, like the Chinese. Heck, they’re probably doing that now.
