The President's trade agenda scored a major victory Tuesday when the Senate voted to advance a bill to allow "fast-track" approval of large international trade bills.
The outcome of this key procedural vote had been in doubt as a group of 14 pro-trade Democrats weighed whether to continue their support of the bill out of concern that a related workers' assistance package might not pass both chambers.
But after repeated assurances by GOP congressional leaders that workers' assistance measure will be adopted, 13 out of 14 backed the bill.
The vote was 60 to 37, passing by the slimmest margin needed to pass.
A final Senate vote on fast-track could come as soon as later Tuesday, and it will then head to President Barack Obama's desk for his signature.

Unfortunately, you are so right. It doesn't matter who we vote far, the uniparty selects the candidates and stages the play so we think we make a difference. Cataclysmic change is needed and it will not come from within the system whatever it is. Maybe Vlad will put us out of our misery, but why would he end the comedy show?
That’s been my mission of FR since November. There are plenty of patriots/conservatives in this country to change things overnight. We HAVE to stop spinning our rigged game. It does NOT matter who wins in 2016. If we don’t make the government obey us and acknowledge our God-given rights, the slide will continue.
If they hadn't given it to them, he would have taken it anyway.
Cruz actually already did all the damage required, out there front and center with Paul Ryan spreading disinformation, while accusing others of the same.
This last minute, second-shot, vote when leadership already has the votes it needs to codify what he so fervently advocated doesn’t mean much to me.
You don’t think he knew better?
I made that decision when they fully funded the DHS two weeks after America said “Stop Obama.”
“Yepits unpopular with the base, so excess votes facing elections, such as Cruz, were freed up at the last minute to try to minimize the damage from the wrath of primary voters.”
Yes, a bunch of additional democrats decided to vote “yes”, allowing Cruz to “courageously” vote “no”, after it was assured of passage.
Meet the new boss... same as the old boss...
Exactly.
You’re so right. It was a scam right from the start.
Yes, we are way past the point where elections, voting or complaining to the Ruling Class will have any impact on what this Fascist tyranny is doing.
We have been subjugated and we are busy arguing about which patsy and political messiah will give us stuff and save us from the declared domestic enemies of the people.
It is too bad the the vast majority of Americans are only concerned about themselves and getting their entertainments and comforts as the be all, end all definition of ‘freedom’.
This all must tie in with the loss of conservative chairmanships in the House, representatives banished by Boehner for bucking “leadership”.
Sadly, even our guy Chaffitz brought the hammer down on one of our TP conservative committee members.
Jim Jordan is one unhappy camper about the heavy handed Boehner purge, and seems to be leading a contingency of about 40 other conservatives.
Voting against Boehner as Speaker is a now a requirement for any and all conservatives left in the HOR.
The election of November 2014 never made a bit of difference. If anything it seems to have furthered the progressive agenda.
The “voting for any republican is better than voting for a democrat” line has been proven resoundingly hollow by everything that has happened in the past few months. So what do we do now?
I don’t know. Some guys out there are ardent disciples of free trade economists, and are reflexive on the issue. I do know one thing: NO ONE in the Washington internationalist establishment expected the fierce blowback.
I suggest we have 40 representatives in the House of Representatives on our side, and we have 1 senator, Jeff Sessions.
Hmmm. What could be done with the 41 good ones?
Draft Jeff SESSIONS FOR PRESIDENT. %:0/
If this thing goes through, can’t it be repealed after the election?
I am disgusted with Sasse, Ernst, Vitter, Toomey and other alleged patriots.
I’m disgusted with all the folks who still buy into this stuff.
Very depressing. It’s clearly what brought us to where we are now.
ANY candidate that assisted this bill to pass will lose their sheen with core primary voters.
