Hmm, maybe there’s an extortion opportunity, at least in the presence of a complicit media: shame or pressure companies to have “diversity coordinators” and then fill the positions with the graduates. Doing so would then employ about as many people as there are companies in the country, or at least as many as there are large enough companies to support the unproductive position without going under. Naturally, this plan would also require a significant number of journalists determined to carry the torch of calling out those companies which do not yet have diversity coordinators on their payrolls, something I’m afraid most journalism students would be willing, if not eager, to do.
Perhaps the plan can go full circle, with the diversity coordinators having their own companies fund endowments for journalism and LGBT studies scholarships, parasitically supporting the training of more journalism students to call out non-complying companies, or training more LGBT-studies students to find their calling as diversity coordinators in other businesses.
