I’m afraid you’re preaching Republican manure.
In NC Jesse Helms led thousands of Democrats into the GOP fold starting with his television commentaries that led him to be the successful GOP candidate for Senate in 1972.
1964 was the peak year for the civil rights movement... You’re talking 8 years later... By that time (72) reasons for switching became muddled with other political realities like the vietnam war...
The Confederacy consisted entirely of members of the Democrat party, and the Republican party (originally a single issue coalition that united proto-leftist "free love" advocates with moralistic Bible-thumpers) is the party that defeated the Confederacy and won the Civil War, which was a war against the United States and the Old Flag.
And no, opposition to the Confederacy does not mean one rejects the "right of revolution" in all times and places . . . just that particular time and place.
“I am sure the Republican party establishment set down and had a long reasoned discussion before they decided, they no longer needed Southern Sympathizers like me.
I am sure that after this long reasoned discussion, they came to the conclusion that by alienating an unknown percentage of these hated southerners, they could convince at least another two or three percent of the sainted black voters to pull the lever for them. Hell, even one percent of that thirteen percent of the population should carry them right in to the presidency, and a huge majority in congress. Then Happy Daze will be here again.”
The GOP knows they have an unbreakable lock on the south.
This just takes another “Culture War” issue off the table and is one less issue for them to be hit over the head with.
Let’s let it go. Sometimes change is good.
The “confederate flag “ is not the prize, the prize is the US flag.
Once the liberals have everyone accepting of demonizing a long standing flag, they will immediate go after the US flag.
We have freepers here that think the Nikki did the right thing. Right, MinuteGal?
My thoughts exactly. The people who started agitating against the Confederate Flag have no more admiration for the Founders of this Country (nor for the Union) than they have for the Confederacy. The Confederate Battle Flag just happens to be an easy target, because they can even get a lot of "conservatives" to sign on to the deal and make this look like a mainstream project rather than one of radical subversion.
You don't have to be a Neo-Confederate or even a sympathizer of the Confederacy to see how rotten this all is. Leftist radicals and professional race agitators have been campaigning against the Confederate flag, and know that they can get moderates or even "conservatives" to go along for the ride on the issue. Such "conservatives" have either been cowed into submission by cries of racism, or they've been deluded into thinking that this is about Union vs. Confederacy or loyalty vs. secession. That isn't what this is all about - the people who want to take down the Confederate Flag would be even happier to see the American flag or any symbol of dreaded "dead white males" torn down. Do Republicans who support taking the flag down really think that Reverends Al and Jesse are doing this to honor the memory of Union soldiers?
Once guns are successfully labeled as racist by the liberals, the second amendment will fall as fast as the Confederate flag did.
Jesse spent his early media years as a Democrat promoting segregationist Democrats and opposing Civil Rights. Jesse changed over the years on race but not enough for the Left-Democrat Party......it was never about race with them to begin with.
