Democratic strategist Maria Cardona posed the idea Sunday that frontrunner Hillary Clinton could lose critical early-state nomination races in Iowa and New Hampshire to socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).
Cardona, a self-described Clinton supporter, said on ABCs This Week that no one should be surprised if Sanders wins both races.
This could be a sign of just how worried Clintons camp is about Sanders, who has garnered huge enthusiasm among the left-wing base of the party.
Host Jonathan Karl teased the discussion with clips of Sanders supporters crowing about their man. He polled well in a recent survey of New Hampshire voters, just 10 points behind the woman expected to coast to the nomination.
I dont think weve seen more enthusiasm for any candidate, Democrat or Republican, than weve seen for Bernie Sanders, Karl said. Maria, what is going on Hillary Clinton, supposed to be a coronation here. She now finds all the energy in the Democratic primary right now is with a 73-year-old self-described socialist from Vermont.
Cardona laughed, saying the media thought this would be a coronation, not Clinton.
Bernie is from a neighboring state, she said. We shouldnt be surprised that there is so much enthusiasm for him, and in fact, we shouldnt be surprised if he does very well in New Hampshire or in Iowa and perhaps even wins. I think this is good for the Democratic Party
As a Hillary supporter, I think she will be the nominee, but she will be that much better of a nominee and that much better of a general election candidate because of Bernie.

Clinton’s wife is going to have to shift into FULL STALIN MODE if she plans on winning.
It could be a sign of voters rejecting establishment candidates to a certain degree on both sides.
Most Dems are socialists themselves and Sander’s honesty about describing himself as openly socialist might have the cathartic effect of bringing millions of Dems out of the closet.
HRC on the other hand is a congenital liar and people are quickly tiring of her lies and corruption.
“I think this is good for the Democratic Party As a Hillary supporter, I think she will be the nominee, but she will be that much better of a nominee and that much better of a general election candidate because of Bernie.
Who’s she trying to convince of that BS, us or herself?
And worse than simply beating Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold and Joyless, Bernie Sanders is doing it on what is essentially a shoestring budget.
You cannot apply a lasting shine to fecal matter, no matter HOW much wax you use. The first little bit of buffing collapses the whole image.
The pubbie candidate, hopefully Cruz or Walker, will be far better off going against Sanders than Clinton. The first woman prez nonsense will be off the table, and they are much younger than Sanders, who looks like a grumpy old man.....not that there is anything wrong with that.
“As a Hillary supporter, I think she will be the nominee, but she will be that much better of a nominee and that much better of a general election candidate because of Bernie.
What a pantload! With the RATS, In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King. If Bernie wins, there will be a deodorant shortage due to hoarding.
She’s probably the worst retail politician that I’ve ever seen. If she had married Bill Jones instead of Bill Clinton we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Maybe when voters realize Bill isn’t running, she’ll collapse for good in the polls.
The Democratic party has become the Communist party. There is no room in it for older, non-full-communist Democrats. this is why the older Democrats, like my Dad was in the 1960’s, are cheering for Rubio and Jeb. They are similar to the older Democrats and certainly had they come along a few decades ago they’d be seen as mainstream Democrats of that day.
Democrats are a full spectrum ranging from Pol Pot Communist’s to Bill Clinton go-along-to-get-along types. There isn’t a real “centrist” in the bunch. The centrist Democrats are the left leaning Republicans.
Run, Bernie, Run!
Cruz vs. Sanders in a series of debates would certainly give America a crystalizing moment of decision.
At least Kruschev had a nice smile.
That’s a laugh: Hildebeest too far right and will have to veer far-left to contend with far-left Bernie. Then she’ll have to pretend to veer to the center, while assuring her leftist supporters that she’s still far left.Lol
I have a grudging respect for Sanders. As politicians go, he seems to be an honest (if very misguided) person. Many on the left are picking up on the honesty thing. No one, left or right, sees Hillary as an honorable or trustworthy person.
Sanders has the momentum, but as of now Hillary is still the favorite.
The media would love it. They would be salivating to label Cruz an anti-semite, and would do so for any mean treatment of Bernie.
He was also prophetic. He said “we will Barry you” and sure enough, we were “Barried” January 20, 2009.
Uh-oh. Am I seeing the bar of expectations being lowered?
