Karl Rove made an appearance on Fox News Sunday and said the only way to stop gun violence is to repeal the Second Amendment and “remove guns from society.”
The subject was the tragic shooting at Charleston, South Carolina’s Emanuel African Methodist Church.
WALLACE:How do we stop the violence?
ROVE: I wish I had an easy answer for that, but I don’t think there’s an easy answer
We saw an act of evil. Racist, bigoted evil, and to me the amazing thing is that it was met with grief and love. Think about how far we’ve come since 1963. The whole weight of the government throughout the South was to impede finding and holding and bringing to justice the men who perpetrated the [Birmingham] bombing.
And here, we saw an entire state, an entire community, an entire nation come together, grieving as one and united in the belief that this was an evil act, so we’ve come a long way.
Now maybe there’s some magic law that will keep us from having more of these. I mean basically the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society, and until somebody gets enough “oomph” to repeal the Second Amendment, that’s not going to happen.

A couple of cycles back a bunch of his chosen favorites lost their primaries. He undermined and backstabbed the Republican candidates.
The entire top tier of the party needs to go away.

It has been said, and corectly, that they are for the vote till they have the guns, then they will be for the guns. This is how NAZISM works.
Rove’s answer was about as weak as you can make it without fully coming out and saying you are against the second amendment. Anyone trying to twist his answer into something else needs to listen again to what he said because really its not difficult to defend 2A and the constitution if you believe in it.

Of course, in this case, Mr. Rove is exactly correct. No silly law, no pen and a phone, no executive order, no police state action can prevent the tragedies that occur in society as exemplified by the massacre in Charleston.
The only solution is a complete and total confiscation of guns in the hands of citizens by the state. Taking that step requires the repeal of the 2d Amendment of the Constitution, following by laws authorizing confiscation of guns. Such laws have been crafted in any number of dictatorial states, so we would have plenty of versions from which to choose.
Those who favor this course of action, should craft a simple Constitutional Amendment repealing the 2d and move forward to have it ratified. Politicians can declare in support or as opposed as they wish. The states may do the same, as they wish. Once done the argument is over and the Federal Government will enjoy complete and total control of every single person in this country. This would be completely legal, and severe punishment could be handed down to anyone caught violating the laws.
That’s the way it works, what are the chances that this course of action would succeed? Zero.
Karl Rove should be tarred and feathered and run out of the US on a rail for proposing to do away with the Second Amendment. Sheeseh!

I am so sick of certain Freepers deliberately misconstruing words to score cheap and not credible political points against people they dislike, which are many. Either that or these Freepers are themselves incredibly stupid. Makes us look bad for no good reason either way.

That’s not quite an accurate assessment either. It was the use of his phrase “..and until somebody gets enough oomph to repeal the 2nd Amendment...”. This is as revealing of his intent as it could be. His syntax here is unmistakable: Rove is hoping for - through his own words - somebody rising to acquire enough “oomph” to do just that. Since he himself stated what would be required for repeal - “oomph” in this case - he sees the 2nd Amendment as a cause of violence and congress therefore must raise it’s “oomph” to stop it. It was Rove who linked gun violence and the 2nd Amendment in this cause-and-effect relationship on Fox News. Nobody else did. And it’s clear that he’s all for the “oomph” needed to repeal it. Otherwise, why sanctify an attempt at repeal with lacking enough “oomph” - which is clearly intended to mean COURAGE to repeal it. That may be lost on you with your comment, but the rest of us get exactly what he means. Which is no surprise. He’s a leftist, period.
“Ooomph” can also be easily interpreted as a condescending taunt against those who are pushing gun control. It was made as part of a factually correct answer.
Rove has enough legitimate issues for people to despise him for. Relying on a interpretation of a single word like “oomph” is a pretty weak, if not contrived, argument to make against his point here.

Although I welcome the gun controllers to come out of the closet and dare to try to repeal the 2nd Amendment, it should be noted that there stated reasons are demonstrably false.
As you can see, most of the Freepers have already pulled out their torches and pitchforks so their isn't much sense in trying to put that info out there.

What Rove says is doing away with the 2nd Amendment will "remove guns from society" and thereby "dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns" - when clearly the lack of Constitutional Gun Rights in Mexico or so many other 3rd world blood-drenched hellholes has clearly neither remove guns from their societies nor reduced gun violence.
You are wrong because you say doing away with the 2nd Amendment will do away with guns (see above) AND because you give Rove a pass on his false lefwing formulation of the issue as Gun Rights vs Criminal Gun Violence.
