If I was most all of the politicians in the US, this would be the first thing I would support also. As they keep the US on a trajectory to the bottom, they know what happens when it gets there.

Want to stop most of the violence? Let me be charge of the punishment...eye for an eye and then more. Our problem is that we are to sympathetic to the criminal. Make them fear the punishment if they are caught. Pain and agony at least matching that of the victim.
I never trusted Rove. The latest riots by out of control criminals proved that more than ever guns are essential for our protection. It is just common sense.

For the moment I don't see how he can reconcile “Repeal the Second Amendment”? How can can he or any government repeal that which was never granted by government. Unfortunately, the historical meaning of the second amendment is only one Supreme Court appointment away from being abolished. Scalia is 79 years old, Kennedy is 78. Replacing either with a progressive in the mold of Ginsberg, Kagan, Sotomayor, or Brennan affords the left the opportunity to reinterpret the 2nd amendment.
Dissenting in the 5-4 Heller opinion, Justice Stevens stated, “When each word in the text is given full effect, the Amendment is most naturally read to secure to the people a right to use and possess arms in conjunction with service in a well-regulated militia. So far as appears, no more than that was contemplated by its drafters or is encompassed within its terms.” Stevens in also stated, “The Amendment’s text does justify a different limitation: the ‘right to keep and bear arms’ protects only a right to possess and use firearms in connection with service in a state-organized militia. Had the Framers wished to expand the meaning of the phrase “bear arms” to encompass civilian possession and use, they could have done so by the addition of phrases such as ‘for the defense of themselves’.” If you think a Republican president won’t appoint a leftist Supreme Court justice, remember Blackman was a Nixon appointee, Stevens was appointed by Ford, Bush I appointed Souter, Bush II appointed Roberts and tried to appoint Miers.
The 2008 Heller decision, affirming the individual right to own a firearm, was a narrow 5-4 decision. Replace Scalia and Kennedy with leftist judges and you have a 6-3 overturn of Heller with the Supremes effectively endorsing any legislation by Congress to ban any type of firearm. After such a ruling as soon as the Democrats have a majority in Congress, with a Democrat president or wishy washy liberal GOP president in his/her second term, expect legislation banning the ownership of firearms and requiring citizens to turn them in. It happened in Great Britain despite centuries of common law protecting gun ownership. It will likely happen here within 10 years.
