Flounder and Halibut may look similar but taste completely different.
Fight different too ... Halibut is mostly DEAD WEIGHT till it gets near the surface and then straight back to the bottom (repeat)

She could have sold most of it and paid for some of her college education...!!!
Makes me want to go back to Alaska rock and halibut fishing!!!

Yes, yes they do. When I was a boy my friend and I would go fishing every summer day we could. On one particular day his little sister tagged along but we had to keep putting the worm on the hook for her. we tired of it and told her to find some bait that she would put on t he hook. She picked a yellow dandelion and speared it with a hook, then swung it out on top of the water. I had no more than hit the water surface and started to spin and a small mouth bass about a pound and a half snagged it! They ate bass for supper that night!

Just plain old mullet caught in the Gulf off the Florida coast and deep fried and served with pickles, onions and hush puppies can be fabulous. It has to be fresh tho.

As with most humor, a little sand dab’ll do it.

Halibut and halibut ‘cheeks’ are just amazing cooked several different ways.
Hubby and I had about 85 pounds of halibut filets and he wanted to give them away vs. taking them home to TX. I told him over my dead body! He didn’t grocery shop so when I told him it was going for about $23/lb. we bought boxes and shipped them back with us on the plane! It was funny as most people in the ticket line at the airport in Anchorage have fish boxes! The TSA guy was asking everyone about their fish stories so I am sure he could write a great book!! Nothing like the rock fish, halibut and canned fresh caught salmon. The cat got some salmon and juice each jar and now she’s a gourmet cat.

What a heart warming story, love to hear them. Those are events that kids remember the rest of their lives. :-)

I was in Ketchikan last week and both halibut and king salmon were in very short supply on the days I fished.

I’d like to buy a fish license for my pet fish, Eric. He’s an ‘alibut.

make that rock fish Was wondering what kind of recipe you had for the rocks you caught, but I see you fixed it..
Rocks are the main crop on the 70ish acres here. Sure wish they were edible.. ;-)
