I’ve wondered about that. He’s obviously near retirement, so I assume he’s unleashed a “what the hell, let’s tell the truth” bomb on the snipers of the left.

I think this guy has spoken out before on the issue. He falls into the camp of too old and too accomplished to give a rodent’s rear end about the consequences of speaking the truth. My guess is they will have to fire him if they want him gone.
