BALTIMOREProsecutors in the Freddie Gray case have asked the judge to take the unusual step of ordering all evidence to be made confidential before the trial of six police officers charged in his death.
The request seeks to prevent defense lawyers from making public any discovery material they receive in the run-up to the trial. Discovery material, which legally must be turned over to the defense, includes evidence, witness lists and other information.
Prosecutors said they want to avoid what they called unfair pretrial publicity, which they largely blamed on the defense.
