Trans-Pacific Partners (TPP) Countries: Comparative Trade and Economic Analysis
Congressional Research Service ^ | June 10, 2013 | Brock R. Williams

Posted on 06/13/2015 11:59:47 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a proposed regional free trade agreement (FTA) among 12 countries: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam.

The negotiating partners have expressed an interest in allowing this proposed “living agreement” to cover new trade topics and to include new members that are willing to adopt the proposed agreement’s high standards. Japan is the most recent country to seek entry into the TPP. The Administration gave Congress notice of its intent to negotiate with Japan in the TPP on April 24, 2013......

TED CRUZ HQ: A Note to Conservatives on Trade Agreements

...... China is not a negotiating partner. ......

"...........Isn’t TPP a “living agreement”?

That particular phrase—a foolish and misleading way to put it—is found in the “summary” portion of one particular section of the draft agreement. That section allows member nations to amend the agreement in the future, expressly subject to the approval of their governments. Thus, if some amendment were proposed in the future, Congress would have to approve it before it went into effect.

But isn’t TPA a secret agreement?

No, it is not. The full text of TPA (fast track) is public. What the Senate just voted for was TPA, not TPP.

Right now, the text of TPP is classified. That is a mistake. Senator Cruz has vigorously called on the Obama administration to make the full text of TPP open to the public immediately. The text being hidden naturally only fuels concerns about what might be in it. Senator Cruz has read the current draft of TPP, and it should be made public now.

Critically, under TPA, TPP cannot be voted on until after the text has been public for 60 days. Therefore, everyone will be able to read it long before it comes up for a vote.

Couldn’t Obama use a trade agreement to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants?

No. There is one section of TPP that concerns immigration, but it affects only foreign nations—the United States has explicitly declined to sign on to that section.

Moreover, Senator Cruz introduced a TPA amendment to expressly prohibit any trade deal from attempting to alter our immigration laws.

Two Republican Senators (Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul) blocked the Senate’s consideration of that amendment, but the House of Representatives has agreed to include that language in the final text of the trade legislation. Thus, assuming the House honors that public commitment, federal law will explicitly prohibit any trade deal from impacting immigration.

And, regardless, no trade agreement can change U.S. law; only Congress can change U.S. law."

How can they analyze something that’s top secret?

This is nonsense. Over the last 15 years many things that, "can't change U.S. law," changed the law.

Obama and Clinton lie; they lie by omission; they lie for political advantage, they lie to milk every issue for personal and political gain.

To ask "Where is Hillary on this is?" is pointless and irrelevant. She won't tell the truth. She plays the game and rakes in cash, hand over fist. It's been her MO for her entire life.

She's a socialist.

But we hear, "Obama wants this! It's a legacy thing!"

Is it? His legacy goal has always been to leave the nation economically and internationally (inc. militarily) broken.

He's a socialist.

Rep. Ryan, Sen. Cruz, and Gov. Walker want jobs for Americans. They want the economy to grow. They want a strong America (economically as well as internationally).

They are free market capitalists.

4-24-15: "....As a candidate for the presidency in 2008, Barack Obama harshly criticized NAFTA on the campaign trail, claiming he would move to renegotiate the pact as president. Yet, reporters later uncovered evidence that Obama’s aides had met privately with Canadian officials to tell them that Obama’s rhetoric was “more reflective of political maneuvering than policy.”....Source

The entire law is secret, and only a few members of Congress have actually looked at it, let alone read it. Why should Congress pass laws that are secret from the public. If it’s so great, why does it need to be hidden?

Of course, when Congress passes it, it becomes US Law.

Let's stop calling these trade agreements by their phony name. They are TREATIES and they need to be approved by 2/3 of the Senate.

For example, many of Obama’s executive orders. His immigration executive orders include provisions that even he used to say weren’t possible in an executive order. But he made those executive orders and now they have the force of law, and no one is opposing them.

“...In a radio interview Monday with Glenn Beck, Mr. Walker said “the next President and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages.” He went on to say, “I’ve talked to folks, I’ve talked to Senator Sessions and others out there.” At the “forefront of our discussion going foward,” he says, must be what legal immigration is “doing for American workers looking for jobs” and what it “is doing to wages.”...

This is more than a simple trade agreement. It is a de facto creation of a Trans-Pacific Union putting signatories like Brunei on the same par with the United States.

Like the bureaucrats in Brussels running the EU, those governing this new economic union will quickly shred national sovereignty on issues like immigration, gun ownership, the environment, taxes, and freedom of religion. Congress and the President will wring their hands claiming there is nothing they can do (while laughing at the peasants) as this occurs.

Obama is out Jan 2016.

So you think anything Obama does until then is okay? (Do you believe any executive order he signed will be overturned?) And Hillary takes over in January 2016. I am sure she won't misuses anything.

If Hillary takes over in 2016 you’ll see “the pen and the phone” work 24/7.

So, let’s stop trying to get her elected.

The US has the highest corporate tax rate in the west. If obama wants to prove he’s for trade then that tax rate should be lowered before any trade agreement is done.
