And so do we.
News and reality are not always the same. Take the matter of marriage.
When a prominent evangelical leader, like Tony Campolo, announces his support for gay marriage, its likely to get reporters attention. It is indeed news, in that it is still unusual to hear an otherwise orthodox Christian announce heterodox views on sexuality. But in the case of Campolo, it may not be the kind of news that garners much attention. (One reason: His organization Red Letter Christians has argued for same-sex marriage several times.)
But we were surprised when former CT editor David Neff on Facebook praised Campolos move. As he put it in an email to me clarifying his comment, I think the ethically responsible thing for gay and lesbian Christians to do is to form lasting, covenanted partnerships. I also believe that the church should help them in those partnerships in the same way the church should fortify traditional marriages.
At CT, were saddened that David has come to this conclusion. Saddened because we firmly believe that the Bible teaches that God intends the most intimate of covenant relationships to be enjoyed exclusively by a man and a woman. Weve stated this view explicitly in many editorials, and it is implicit but clear in many of our feature stories.

yes, the info seems to be somewhat spotty. I guess 12 is about right.
Which is like, 5% of countries?
You’ll be stunned seeing all those who believe Tony Campolla’s teachings....and in fact he “appeals” to liberals and many are now entering churches and playing havoc with the God’s people.
If so, what a disaster... no need to care about continuity with timeless principles (however much the exact means of continuity may be debated) — just do what you think God wants you to feel at the time.
Campolo.
Anyhow, decades ago Campolo came across fairly reasonably, with more or less logical tropes on well accepted gospel principles.
Then I forgot about him. And now we see this.
Some of the modern indulgence might be a pendulum swing from rigid lack of Christian sympathy with the tribulations of the sexually challenged. However there has to be some sane middle ground. Buggery is hate embodied. And so is idolatry of one’s gender. Let us by all means be sympathetic to the people who have sustained wounds through which the devil tempts to such folly. But let us by all means keep on identifying such folly as folly.
I suspect someone has something on Mr. Campolo.
“I suspect someone has something on Mr. Campolo.”
The somebody is Satan. What he has is called a title. It gives him ownership.
“...you, who were spiritually dead all the time that you drifted along on the stream of this worlds ideas of living, and obeyed its unseen ruler (who is still operating in those who do not respond to the truth of God)...”
