Guns are definitely an equalizer and for those who love freedom, liberty, and peace. Which is why the ruling classes of most nations always enact strict gun controls.

Japanese history is a great case study. At one point in Japanese history, peasants had more guns that the British Empire. Freedom and unprecedented prosperity on the Island nation followed. It did not last long though, because the ruling class, fearing uprisings against their bad policies, implemented a "gun and sword buy-back" outlawing gun ownership.

Predictably, freedom, liberty, technological innovation, and the economy stagnated...
