Me too!
Ted Cruz May 2015:
Sen. Cruz. I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Ted Cruz in June 2015:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) is not giving the president more authority and that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is not accurate in some of his claims regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Fridays broadcast of The Kuhner Report on Bostons WRKO.
Sen. Cruz. I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Barack Obama: “”Today I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office.” Feb 2009
Lucy: “Go ahead Charlie Brown and kick the football. I promise I won’t pull it away this time.”
Cruz blew it, and his explanation is pejorative. I am disappointed in Cruz for supporting this, but even more so that he thinks we don’t understand.
Thank you for posting this. If I understand correctly the TPA is the rule book for what future trade agreements can or cannot allow. The full text of TPA is available here https://www.congress.gov/114/bills/hr1314/BILLS-114hr1314eas.pdf. The TPP is a trade agreement still in negotiation and once finalized will be available to the public for 60 days before a vote, guaranteed by the TPA. If TPA is not in place then it seems there is more room for secrecy and shenanigans for all future trade agreements including TPP. Those on this thread are simply new here for the single intent of undermining Cruz and Walker (I’ve seen your posts and sign up date), or they are against Free Trade as a rule. Or they feel there is too much wiggle room for dems to change, or over ride, the TPA? I am not arguing for or against but trying to cut through the detractor’s talking points and pin point the legitimate questions or concerns.
Now that's a problem right there. The TPP is an agreement between nations. It is a treaty, period. And so it requires a 2/3 majority in the Senate for passage.
The folks who try to push it as a trade pact, or an agreement, or a whatever are doing an end run around the Constitution. It really bothers me that Cruz and the rest of them are silent about this aspect.
How cute. You think that passing TPA with amendments will stop Obama from using it to gut America.
Because that pesky, old, outdated constitution made it difficult to get treaties passed, requiring 67 votes, amendments, debate and congressional input throughout the process.
So, our congressional non-leaders, decided to give all their equal-branch powers away with a novel idea....Fast Track authority.
They first had to redefine trade deals as not the same as a treaty (even though both are agreements between nations).
Then, they knew if details were released early, opponents could gin up opposition, so they decided to take congress out of most of the process.
This version of the TPA includes giving even more powers to the executive branch than previous versions. In the hands of Obama, that is a disaster in the making.
Throughout Obama's term, it seems Congress has kept relinquishing power to the executive. It has happened before, but not to this extent. so our elected leaders decided to shortcut the constitution
I was for you.....and Ted Cruz....until you turned me against you.
Calling Freepers names like ‘bat -s...it crazy’ ....really wins us over.
Ted Cruz turning on Senator Sessions was the last straw for me, and no amount of name calling will make me say....’oh wait, I was wrong’
We’re Rachel Dolezal (famed NAACP activist) and Ted Cruz separated at birth? They certainly look like twin frauds.
If he would just come out and apologize for it I might vote for him.
With the passage of TAA and TPA, Cruz can vote against TPP, but it will pass anyway, so his protestation is worthless.
Kill bad bills any way you can.
Yes, there is something about popular first-term Senators that give great speeches which we should be wary about.
Were. (As in has beens).
“Ted Cruz WILL NOTE VOTE FOR A SECRET TPP Agreement.”
*****
Directly. A vote for fast track authority is a vote for TPP.
Why?
Congress rubber stamps agreements negotiated with fast track. No amendments. Simple majority in Senate. No ability to filibuster.
This means Cruz is either a moron (he’s not) or being deceptive (he is).
Bought and paid for by Goldman Sachs.
Maybe its time to give Jindal a second look.
Ha ha....so if we disagree we are newbies!!!!!!!.....
I ‘ve been here since ‘99
.....and Diogenesis since 2000
...and you’ve been here since......oh 2006
"Thank you and Cruz for supporting and empowering me and
pi$$ing in the face of the conservatives and the stupid Constitution on trade,
while cleverly claiming it is 'rain'."

Rub some bacon on it.
Goldman Sachs gave him a call.
