1. On Obamacare:
I think the best legislative option is to allow states to opt out, Cruz said in the Capitol. I am cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will conclude in King vs. Burwell that the Obama IRS disregarded the plain language of the statute and acted lawlessly. And when that occurs, it will be a real opportunity for Congress to lead.
Here is a little bit more on what an opt-out might look like.
2. On trade: TPA is what the Senate voted on recently. I voted in favor of fast track because I support free trade. I think free trade benefits America. It creates jobs opening markets to our farmers, to our ranchers, to our manufacturers, improves economic growth. In Texas alone, roughly 3 million jobs depend on international trade.
And if you support free trade, the only way history has shown free trade agreements get negotiated is through fast track.
Now there is a second issue which has caused a great deal of confusion and that is TPP it is one specific trade deal that is being negotiated. It is separate from TPA. Congress has not voted on TPP, and theres a great deal of concern about TPP.
Now, I have not voted on TPP, and I havent decided if I will support it or not, because the negotiation isnt complete, and Im going to wait and review and see what the agreement is first before assessing if it would be beneficial or harmful.
Much more hereincluding a response to Senator Jeff Sessionss claims about TPA.
For lawyers, until it's in writing, signed, and witnessed, it's all just pillow talk.
Lt. Col. Allen B. West is the best choice to replace Cruz.
Pray for Ted. Satan has a way of zeroing people in.
“what does supporting free trade have to do with fast track?”
Absolutely nothing. Ted Cruz has stepped in doo doo ala Gang of Eight territory and he is trying to spin his way out of the swamp.
They didn’t need TPA to jam NAFTA down our throat or the 11 or so trade deals Bush made during his 2 terms. Its just a load of BS.
Yes and no.
TPP is the actual trade agreement. TPA (Fast Track) is just the streamlined process that TPP would be passed under.
TPP will be made public for review and debate prior to being voted on. However TPA makes it MUCH easier to pass, specifically by removing the ability of Senators to filibuster against it and restricting the vote to a simple up or down majority
And if California falls into the ocean We get all kinds of help from foreign countries too. I am sure that is in there. We are just not allowed to see it.
I was 100% in his camp and then he decided we need a 500% increase in H1B visas and then he tries to ram this top secret crap sandwich down our throats.
He has committed political suicide. Apparently he thinks he’s smarter than we are. He is, but then we are not nearly as stupid as he thinks we are.
If we want to know why he has taken this track, follow the money.
That line of reasoning doesn’t really apply to someone like Cruz who has expertly used cloture and the filibuster on multiple occasions. Including to shut down the government.
Lawyer or not.
The vote that matters is the vote tomorrow on cloture TPA, Cruz said. Any senator who votes yes on cloture TPA tomorrow is voting to give Harry Reid OBAMA the power to fully fund Obamacare SELL OUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I will vote no on cloture tomorrow.VOTED YES ON TPA. That vote is the fight.
Yes. But what happens to “unfinished negotiations” when it passes? Is it at the whim of the administration, is it not? Sort of like we see with Obamacare.
Yes, exactly the point we, and others, have been making on various threads all day.
I’m not willing to run from Cruz just yet. For me it’s still him or Walker. But he needs to come out with a MUCH better explanation of his vote, beyond “But Reagan had Fast Track”
"TPA? It's all covered in the latest TPS report. So if you can find that, that would be great."
He and his campaign keep doubling down. They can't admit they screwed the pooch.
TPA makes it far more difficult to stop TPP, because it will only require 50 votes to pass in the Senate instead of 60. Cruz knows this full well.
Negotiations don’t have to be finished to pass TPA.
They DO have to be finished to pass TPP using the TPA process.
The issue for me is, and has been, the portion of TPA preventing a filibuster. You’d then have to get 51 Senators to oppose it, not 41. Blindly allowing a simple majority vote on something with some of the provisions this thing allegedly has is insanity.
Satan is on Ted Cruz side.
The TPA is the tool Satan needs in order to pass the TPP.
Obama orgasmicly wanted to hand over what George Washington set up over 200 years ago to foreign Wolves....
This is the WORST Republican leadership in 50 years!
Republicans took back Congress by promising to stop Obama’s power grabbing.
Then McConnell, Boehner and the Ryan chorus push for new secret trade legislation in order to pass the hidden from public to give him even more power to abuse.
Here is another full disclosure: National Review is the Journal of Record for the gop establishment and are proud bootlickers of the gop leadership. If they’re flacking for it, it’s gotta be bad.
Platitudes like “free trade” are not the same as giving America over to the rest of the world.
