NAFTA was Reagan’s idea. It’s just that some protectionists have selective memories.
I don't think so.
“Its just that some protectionists have selective memories.”
I am a protectionist. I think that American manufacturing and American jobs should be protected. How is that evil? Are you willing to give up your job to promote free trade? Another person’s job to promote free trade? What is so holy about free trade? As Mark Levin asked, if the trade bill is so good, why does there have to be job training for the people who lose their jobs? What kind of jobs can they be trained for? Certainly not manufacturing jobs. And if job training were successful, why are their 93 million Americans without jobs?
I googled it, you are right. Results show that Reagan was wrong. The trade deficit with Mexico has mushroomed since the inception of NAFTA. Trade deficits are the bottom line and can be used to correctly gauge the success of a trade deal. Trade deficits cannot be argued with or explained away, and cause job outsourcing.
Uh...no. Reagan's idea was "trade that is free, open, and fair".....which is nowhere near what we have in NAFTA. To attempt to blame Reagan for the disaster that is NAFTA is like blaming Bill Clinton for balancing the budget. It's asinine.
I really don’t care about the protectionism angle, pro or con.
What I care about is the fact that Obama will use this as a framework to create treaties that cause Americans to be forced into paying ‘carbon taxes’ and treaties that undermine the Second Amendment.
