Geez...the poor guy got his body blown to smithereens 14 times in Vietnam and refused to be treated with more than just a band-aid and has a hat seared, seared into his skull.
And you think he needs a cast for a mere broken leg?
Did I mention he was in Vietnam?
The surgical remedy probably doesn’t require a cast, the bone is drilled and a stainless rod is placed. No cast so the wound can be monitored for infection. Femur breaks are considered a threat to life before and after because much of the bodies red blood cell production is by the marrow in the femur.
