"Republican members arent buying what President Barack Obama and House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) are selling when it comes to Obamatrade, and support for the presidents key trade agenda item is starting to fall apart rapidly amid grassroots pressure."

Good. I hope they don’t cave and bend over.
Great news.
Has Ted Cruz ever provided an adequate explanation on why he voted for this? Especially with essentially everything hidden from the public???
The news could not be better.
SOMETIMES, when an otherwise good man screws up real bad...you don't rub it in.
UNLESS you have reason to believe he does not see the error of his ways. Then you publicly shame and berate him.
How about we pause on Teddy and see if he continues to advocate for this...stays quiet...or slowly walks back his earlier support.
Then we can ask more detailed questions on IMMIGRATION lol

I believe that Ted Cruz is one of the few in the Senate trying to resist the advance of the Progressives’ agenda. Cruz KNOWS he will never get help from the RINO leadership in the Senate so he has created informal alliances with constitutional conservatives in the House.
Cruz proposed a number of amendments to the Senate bill to remove/amend the objections parts. None of those amendments passed given the opposition of the ‘RATS and the RINOs running the Senate. Cruz’ allies in the House hopefully will prevent the Obama version from being approved. Then (if the conservative efforts prevail in the House) if Obama, McConnell and Boehner want a Trade agreement, one of the few ways they could get it would be to allow the Cruz amendments to be incorporated at which time it becomes acceptable to many constitutional conservatives.
He did come out and say it would take legal consultants at least 60 days to digest the text and find the flaws and that he was concerned that wouldn’t happen.
I don’t think you should vote on hope.
I agree, I’m having issues with his H1-b stance and his vote for the TPA. There will be no perfect candidate, so far it’s Cruz, and maybe Walker, that’s it, no throwaway vote this time.
> “Has Ted Cruz ever provided an adequate explanation on why he voted for this?”
Yes.
> “Especially with essentially everything hidden from the public???”
TPA is not hidden. TPP is. TPP is just a pacific trade deal and it must pass on its own later. Ted has read the TPP and says it is over 700 pages and looks like a regular trade deal but he wants to read it again slowly and pay attention to all the details. All members of Congress will have 60 days to read it in detail. Ted says it is STUPID that the TPP is secret. But he will be on top of it.
As for TPA, it is not a bad bill as long as it keeps all the amendments that have been put in it. Think of the TPA as a highway patrol car. Depending on who is driving, the car can do good or bad things for the public. With Obama driving it can be a nightmare but the TPA bill with its amendments severely restricts Obama. But there’s more to it than that.
Here’s why Ted voted YES on TPA (link at the very bottom):
1. Texans want to sell their beef, oil and gas but FTC restricts them. Ted ran to represent his constituents on better trade terms and he is keeping his promise but he also keeping a close eye on Obama who he says clearly that “I don’t trust Barack Obama AT ALL!”.
2. No one will deal with US Presidents because any deal gets turned upside down by Congress, hence no amendments can be made on TPA and Congress only gets a straight up or down vote. This is a good thing and has been needed for a long time.
3. Obama can’t use TPA for backdoor amnesty because Ted filed an amendment to an amendment that was passed and is in the bill that US immigration laws remain intact. Obama would be breaking the law if he tried to get backdoor amnesty.
4. Obama wanted backdoor amnesty and Climate Change in the bill but he can’t get amnesty and the CC provisions are weak and are non-starters. Ted says Obama has only 18 months left in office and any trade deal will have to pass Congress. Obama will not be spending the last 4 months before the election to work a trade deal because of the conventions and the summer schedule. Therefore Obama only has effectively about 8 months to get a trade deal under TPA. Very difficult to do and he hasn’t got much trade to deal with anyways except for migrant labor which he cannot do and carbon credits that would take years to setup. So he’s lost his gambit. But people are so scared of him that they don’t see the reality. TPA only gives authority, does not make specific terms to a specific trade deal. Obama can’t do much because no one wants to trade with him. Cruz as president can create millions of jobs and that’s not just talk because there’s an oil glut which is causing fracking and drilling to taper off and Obama won’t let surplus oil be sold outside USA. Obama also won’t allow the Keystone Pipeline and even more importantly Obama won’t allow for the enormous ENORMOUS surplus in Natural Gas to be exported as LNG especially to the Euro Zone who has been begging for it to reduce their dependence on Russian energy supplies. So yes, millions of jobs can be created and they will be secure well-paying jobs.
5. Ted can’t wait for TPA when he is President because the democrats will never give TPA to a republican president. TPA is going to benefit oil and gas industries and cattle and these are traditionally conservative businesses. Democrats do not want to empower Conservatives. Therefore, NOW is the time to get TPA for President Cruz because he will have it for 4 years. Where’s the proof of all this? It’s right here clear as a bell on Warren’s blog http://elizabethwarren.com/blog.
The grassroots are afraid of Obama even though he won’t get far with TPA. Any trade deal he has time to get into will be subject to a straight up or down vote by Congress. Obama was trying to get Amnesty and Climate Change authority rammed through via TPA as that is what his hard core leftist masters want him to do. But now his hands are tied so TPA will be good for republicans and conservatives. But the grassroots is misinformed and scared to death of anything Obama. Ted is not scared of him and sees how TPA can be a boon for America and Americans.
Unfortunately it looks now that both democrats and some republicans in the House will hold it up. It could die. This is a problem of a disconnect of information between Ted Cruz and the grassroots. Ted knows more but the grassroots is emotional. No one can blame the grassroots for fear and suspicion of Obama but it is based on an overreaction.
Again the problem with waiting until Cruz is President for TPA is that it will take 60 votes in the Senate to resurrect it and the democrats won’t let 60 votes happen. So it’s now or never.
Ted is smart, he knows what he is doing but even he cannot overcome the public’s fear of Obama.
Heres what Ted has to say directly about TPP/TPA (start time 52:00):

Thank you for the information.
Have you read the secret bill?
3. Obama cant use TPA for backdoor amnesty because Ted filed an amendment to an amendment that was passed and is in the bill that US immigration laws remain intact. Obama would be breaking the law if he tried to get backdoor amnesty.
His amendment failed, and Obama is not adverse to breaking the law on immigration.
“There is no mention of TPP in the article.”
TPA has been around for years. They intend to vote on TPP.
YOU LIE.
I posted the verifying link on another thread. You find it yourself.
You lie again. TPA is up for vote consideration now in the House.
“You lie again. TPA is up for vote consideration now in the House.”
Lie again? Here’s Senator Sessions language on what they are voting for or against:
“Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is one of the few members of Congress who has taken the time to jump through the hoops and read the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). But, he has gone a step farther than other members he told members of Congress what he read. He told the truth about what the TPP says and why Congress should oppose it in a five page letter to his colleagues.”
Now I can understand the confusion, because I have read news accounts and they will use TPA and TPP in the same article, interchangeably. As far I can make out, TPA is the vehicle used to implement TPP. Senator Sessions talks about TPP, which is under heavy wraps on the Senate floor. TPP is what has been going on for 6 years in secret. Senator Sessions says they voted on TPP, not me.
