My 94 year old, arthritic mother reuses to use those electric carts, instead she leans on a regular shopping cart. She says that she doesn't want people to think that she's lazy.

Pain is an individual matter. We cannot judge that either. I could do my weekly grocery shopping by leaning on the shopping basket, but I would be in tears by the time I got to the car, and useless for the rest of the day when I got home.
These days my husband loads my own scooter on the lift and I take that to the store. Nobody thinks you’re lazy when you are using your own device.
