Why not? I can think of no reason. The arguments in favor of gay marriage completely apply to this. Heaven help us.

Why not?

Thank you for posting your opinion. I take it you are not a christian but a secularist who support gnosticism.

You misread my post, I was being sarcastic.

I will add this. If the arguments for gay marriage are legally sustained then what possible reason could the courts give to block any kind of other marriage arrangements between consenting adults?

This is the part of the argument I make to people who support gay marriage. The response I get is that marriage should only be between two people. To which I answer who are they to question the way other people love each other. And that in truth, they have no cause to call me a bigot or homophobe because they are just as willing as I am to put limits on marriage. We just draw the line at different places. That is usually where the discussion ends.

And I am a Christian who believes that traditional marriage is the only kind of marriage acceptable before God. But you must realize that this is not an argument that holds any water with these people. The are not just godless, they are anti-god. Nothing I can say to them is going to change their minds, but I can certainly show them their own hypocrisy when I am able to.

The only ‘legal basis’ the state has for determining its definition of marriage is simply whatever judges, pols, or the voting majority happen to think the definition should be at any one time. Any logic or consistency doesn’t enter into it beyond whatever judges, pols, or the voting majority decide they want to use.

Polyamory has long been accepted in the USA but we’ve called them “swingers” which makes it sound better and that makes it okay.

Sort of like how we call sodomites “gay” and that suddenly makes that okay, too.

In this case, I suspect the legal precedents are on the same track as what at least some of the judges (and pols) want to do, never mind the voters.
