All three of the citys public pools lie to the east of Highway 75. Craig Ranch, where the pool party took place, lies well to its west. BuzzFeed reports that the fight broke out when an adult woman told the teens to go back to Section 8 housing.
Craig Ranch North is the oldest residential portion of a 2,200 acre master-planned community. The neighborhood is made up of single-family homes, says the developers website, and includes a community center with two pools, a park and a playground. Private developments like Craig Ranch now routinely include pools, often paid for by dues to homeowners associations, and governed by their rules. But that, in itself, represents a remarkable shift.
At their inception, communal swimming pools were public, egalitarian spaces. Most early public pools in America aimed more for hygiene than relaxation, open on alternate days to men and women. In the North, at least, they served bathers without regard for race. But in the 1920s, as public swimming pools proliferated, they became sites of leisure and recreation. Alarmed at the sight of women and men of different races swimming together, public officials moved to impose rigid segregation.
As African Americans fought for desegregation in the 1950s, public pools became frequent battlefields.

raves?
i wonder how one gets from tobacco bans to private property rights. also what if anything separates tobacco bans from marijuana bans.
Little gangsters already gangsters!
Yes, private pool party in HOA neighborhood, subject to HOA’s rules & guests needed permission to attend.
Someone put it out on twitter & people crashed the event, jumping the fence.
DJ had setup nearby & was playing rap music; this (plus the fencejumpers) was one of the things that prompted the calls to the cops.
Check FR keyword ‘poolpartycrashers’ for more info on this.
The cop was right to have drawn his weapon. The girl did keep mouthin off. When the cop began taking control, a few people rushed him.
I’d have done the same thing.
HOA pool, guests need permission to attend
Trespassers will be shot.
If they keep moving, they will be shot again.
or (nowadays) twitter parties?
The Pool was obviously full of Obama Water.
To bad people are making the police the enemy like our government prevents our soldiers from fighting in war.
It’s war on the streets for officers ‘every day’. Pretty soon the police won’t come so quick and just pick up the residue after the fact.
Unfortunately there are several incidents accompanied by video apparently showing police officers overstepping the line. This has got society all in an uproar.
99% of officers are good guys. Could you imagine society without them?
With that said, there are a few bad apples and now were seeing a backlash.
Noon Dallas news: Kids under 18 have to have adult present. Kids stormed into the pool area.
Yes...only two guests per person allowed. as per news.
Check FR keyword ‘poolpartycrashers’ for more info; FRmail me for names of the two guys.
I don’t care if they step over the line....I really don’t.
Good that the ‘rest of the story’ is coming to light.
Interviewed some residents who supported police. Kids started to fight amongst themselves. Police were called and residents happy they did. Said kids were fighting, shouting obscenities, etc.
They called someone a “party promoter” but no name. I guess that’s where the tweeting came in. Nothing mentioned about a DJ.
Yep. Trust me, if this happened in my neighborhood (which on only down the road from CR) every last resident would support the police. We look side-eyed at people walking down the sidewalk if they seem sketchy. Phone calls are made.
>>I dont care if they step over the line....I really dont.<<
Until you happen upon a cop that treats you poorly.
I can understand that sentiment. Lot’sa wild crap goin on now days for sure, but we can’t have cops running wild.
I’ve seen a couple of news reports with video of elderly motorist being roughed up, ladies that weigh 100lbs soakin wet being slammed face first into the pavement.
Some of this stuff is out of hand and I do care. Wouldn’t want my wife or teenager abused by anyone....that includes a cop having a bad day.
