Somewhere along the line the paradigm of American society changed and the America that we all knew was lost. There is now not just verbal sympathy but coordinated outright support and dedication of resources for open attack upon the rule of law and due process, from suspects at the federal level all the way down to various notorious locales. I doubt at this point drawing down on anyone would have stopped anything and instead escalated into something that could be twisted into the favor of the outlaws.
