I’ve only heard bits and pieces of the story but I believe the Qatar matches were planned to be played in the cooler months of November and December which conflicts with the meat of the European regular season schedule. They were not jazzed about that at all. The whole thing was a mess from the beginning.

Plan A was to have the games in July/August as the normal World Cup schedule (for over fifty years) has been. They lied through their teeth....saying that they had technology....cooling capability (even though it was open-air stadiums)...and the games would only be played at night (no one ever indicated how this would work with the massive TV contracts in Europe).

Plan B is now in effect....the games would start in mid-November, interrupting the season of every single team, and they’d be forced....even if it were a B-league or C-league....to cancel all games. In Germany....most everyone blasted the idea and laughed over the mere idea that the games would end just a couple of days prior to Xmas.

Here’s the thing....when the games get cancelled....Qatar will sue FIFA and it’ll bankrupt the organization in the end. I think most fans agree....that’s about the only way left to take FIFA apart....no one trusts the leadership and it ought to just dissolve away into nothing.
