How the GOP went ‘Psycho,’ and how to fix it
reuters.com ^ | 6/5/15 | Craig Shirley

Posted on 06/05/2015 9:37:35 AM PDT by cotton1706

It is hard to describe just how bad things are for the Republican Party. Each day it looks more and more like the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho.

More precisely, the GOP is actually most like the central character who owns the motel: Norman Bates and his alter ego, “Mother,” a.k.a. Norma. Norman appears to be a polite, sincere young man, if strongly dominated by Mother. But so what if he’s idiosyncratic, even eccentric, with a mother fixation? As a private individual, he has the right to be odd.

Mother, meanwhile, wants absolute control over her son. She prefers the status quo — just like the GOP establishment. Consider the senior GOP leadership’s embrace of the National Security Agency’s enveloping surveillance activities. Mother is always spying on Norman. And Norman, when in the grip of his alter-ego, spies on private citizens.

The real Norman is akin to the Tea Party. As played by Tony Perkins, Norman is peaceful, an individualist if a bit naïve. He just wants to be left alone.

Norman is not a killer. It is Mother who is the killer. She is particularly out to get those who bring new ideas and individuality to the Republican Party.

The GOP’s corrupt, corporatist Washington insiders are now playing the role of Mother — lacking principles and remorse, interested only in power and control. She just can’t leave Norman alone. Mother gets upset when Norman tries different experiences or meets different people. Mother is a control freak.

Moreover, strong GOP candidates check in at the Bates Motel, only to disappear.

Other than the last sentence, a pretty good article.

Mainstream republicans are akin to abusive, incestuous, parents and tea party republicans are akin to cross dressing serial killers?

If this is their idea of a “good” article, I’d hate to see what Reuters considers an attack piece.

Yes, we should listen to nutbag democrat activists who pretend to work as "Journalists" to fix our party. We all know extreme leftwing Democrat kook bags only have our best interests at heart.

Anyone stupid enough to pay heed to these political activists is too stupid to belong in our party.

I thought it was worth reading. The author is apparently not a fan of the Establishment. He’s written two books on Reagan.

If only we could make everyone aware of just how biased is everyone who works in the field misleadingly called "Journalism."

There is no such field anymore, it's all hacktastic activists now. We need to do RICO prosecutions on them and toss them in prisons.

I enjoyed the article. I keep up with any bashing of the Establishment. The author wrote two books on Reagan.

From my collection of quotes:

The liberal is the child. All things are new, all things are possible. All is kindness and lovable little puppies. The Conservative is the father who whispers in the child’s ear that most things have been tried, possibilities have problems, kindness is expensive and lovable little puppies may turn into mean ugly dogs. — FReeper Captain Compassion

Surprising. It must be a slow news day.

The problem is that the top of the party is controlled by The Cheap Labor Express.
They want amnesty and the continued invasion of our nation.

GOP voters want to retain the rule of law and restore enforcement of immigration laws.

The two are irreconcilable.

In that case, i'll take a look, but my initial perusal of his language leaves me with a strong impression that he wants "Change" in the same manner as the Democrats want "change."

That line about " Mother gets upset when Norman tries different experiences or meets different people. " Sounds suspiciously like suggesting we need to embrace the "Dreamers" and "Homos" . In modern parlance "different" experiences and "different" people has become code for "objectionable experiences" and "objectionable people".

That and he's writing for Reuters? Not a good start.

I'll look deeper. My gut reaction to people writing about embracing "different experiences and different people" is that they are part of the "Big Tent crowd"; A group that has led us to defeat after defeat by watering down the differences between us and the Democrats, usually by compromising with the Democrats while our party brand gets the blame for Democrat ideas/policies.

By every appearance over many years, Craig Shirley is a Reaganite.

Carry on.

We had to tear justice apart in order to save it.

Yeah. In any other hands other than God’s that will be nothing but utter disaster.

But it could also mean Christians (who are sincere, not just fountains of thou shalt for others).
