She kept this crime secret for 36 years while Hastert rose to power?
What does this say about her credibility?
Supposedly she went to the news with it, (so she says) but since it was just her word I guess they showed enough common sense not to get sued to high heaven for slander or liable, whichever it is.
Apparently she didn’t keep it quiet. It’s been reported she contacted ABC during the Foley episode and ABC said they could not confirm the story so did not run it.
Who was going to believe this woman vs the Speaker of the House? Although... you would think that the way the Foley situation was handled ... someone would have delved into the allegation a bit more.

In the two decades after Steve’s death, Jolene said that she tried to expose Hastert, even writing to ABC News and another news organization as well as some advocacy groups in 2006 after another congressman, Rep. Mark Foley, was discovered having sexually explicit message exchanges with an underage male page.
At the time ABC News could not corroborate Jolene's allegation and Hastert denied the claim.
ABC has known about this accusation for years.
