BERKELEY (CBS SF) Are you a compulsive giggler? Blame it on your family.
Researchers at UC Berkeley and Northwestern University say theyve discovered the giggle gene responsible for the regulation of serotonin that makes some of us more prone to bursts of laughter.
The study published in the journal Emotion found that people with the short allele of gene variant known as 5-HTTLPR were more likely to smile and laugh while looking at Far Side cartoons and funny video clips.
A previous study by the same research team found that people with the same gene were more impacted by their spouses emotions, suggesting that DNA is also linked to marital satisfaction.

Maybe giggles are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. (I know it’s supposed to be beer that does that, but giggles do a lot for us before we are old enough for beer, and they go well with beer, actually.)
Now THAT us FUNNY! *giggle*
Caution! Too much beer and your beer giggles turn into beer goggles which can lead to horror stories.
Have they discovered the “gay gene”?
Giggling for a good reason is okay but I have had the misfourtune knowing a few people that you break into fits of giggleing for no good reason at all, it was like someone flipped their happy switch on and left it on and they would just flip to manic fits of giggling....
Yep. That could get old. I sort of thought most people got past the really irritating, uncontrollable giggles in the slumber party years.
I don’t know about this, something about it just doesn’t ring true. I mean why do fit of uncontrollable giggling seem to happen more often in inappropriate places, like sitting on the balcony during church?
It also seems like that people go through periods of this uncontrollable giggling at periods in their lives when they are miserable, a kind of, “had to laugh to keep from cryin’ “. ( what was that song?)
Excessive pointless laughter and uncontrollable giggling is annoying to most rational people.

“Have they discovered the gay gene?”
Yup. It’s right there between the “giggle” gene and the “pink is fabulous” gene.
