There was recently a thread on FR discussing the fact that gargantuan aircraft carriers were great as a projection of force against weaker nations but not so useful against serious armies such as the US, Russia, and China. I don’t remember all the specifics but the gist was their size, and limited maneuverability made them easy targets for modern missiles.

Nor against any navy with half decent submarines, especially SSNs that have the speed to be able to catch up to and intercept them.
